Apply for X01 Resource Access Award

Expand what your pediatric cohort can reveal.

The NIH X01 Resource Access Award provides selected investigators with NIH-supported sequencing and other data-generation services. The award delivers these resources in kind rather than as direct research funding.

  • Generate new data from existing samples: Submit childhood cancer or congenital condition samples for whole-genome sequencing and other justified genomic or molecular assays through a Kids First program-supported center.
  • Reveal more from your cohort: Add data that can uncover genetic contributors to disease, identify shared pathways, and support new research questions.
  • Extend your cohort’s impact: Data will be processed, harmonized, and shared through the Kids First DRC to support cross-cohort analysis, collaboration, and continued discovery.

Key Funding Opportunities

X01 Resource Access Award

  • Contribute to Cures: Your data will be an integral part of the Kids First Portal while your research is funded and your data is harmonized through these generous grants.
  • Unlock new insights: Access vital genetic sequencing data for select sample cohorts to deepen your research.
  • Fuel your discoveries: Awarded X01 grants are eligible for submission to the Kids First portal, expanding the valuable data resource for the entire research community.

R03 Small Research Grants

These one-time grants support limited-scope, short-term research projects within specific program areas.

Apply for funding to explore questions that were previously out of reach:

  • Spark new discoveries: Combine two or more Common Fund datasets to investigate complex biological questions across programs.
  • Expand the impact of Kids First data: Integrate pediatric genomic data with other NIH resources to uncover new connections in pediatric congenital conditions.
  • Fund bold pilot research: R03 grants support short-term projects with awards.

Long Read Pilot Projects

These projects use advanced long-read sequencing technologies to enable the investigation of complex structural genetic variations contributing to pediatric diseases.
